Date of Activity Expiration: August 26, 2021

Target Audience:

The Foundation of the ASNR Symposium 2018 will focus on adding value and improving healthcare in neuroradiology. It will center on how neuroimaging adds value in many subspecialty areas, including brain, spine, head & neck, pediatric and neurointerventional procedures. The target audience will include practicing neuroradiologists, other radiologists charged with interpreting neuroimaging studies, radiology fellows andresidents, neuroscientists interested in the latest advances, and non-radiology colleagues whose practices include neuroimaging. Dedicated topic areas include screening and diagnostic neuroimaging, evidence based neurointerventional treatment, emergency neuroimaging use and usefulness, advanced imaging strategies, and healthcare reform.

About This Module:

This module is composed of following parts:
  • Cerebral Perfusion Imaging in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Beyond Dynamic Contrast Susceptibility Imaging; Jeremy J. Heit, MD, PhD
  • Vessel Wall Imaging for ICAD; Sameer A. Ansari, MD, PhD
  • Assessing Aneurym Hemodynamics; Novel MRI Techniques; Waleed Brinjikji, MD

Objectives:

Upon completion of this module, participants should be able to:

Cerebral Perfusion Imaging in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Beyond Dynamic Contrast Susceptibility Imaging

  1. Describe how perfusion imaging increases the treatment effect of mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke.
  2. Describe how arterial spin labeling MRI is performed.
  3. Name two advanced MRI techniques that may be used for the penumbral imaging.

Vessel Wall Imaging for ICAD

  1. Describe various carotid and intracranial protocols in MR vessel wall imaging
  2. Leverage various MRI modalities for recurrent stroke risk assessment by understanding ICAD stroke mechanisms via plaque vulnerability or hemodynamic/perfusion impairment
  3. Identify features of vulnerable, unstable plaques on HR BBMRI

Assessing Aneurym Hemodynamics; Novel MRI Techniques

  1. Explain the fundamental principles of phase-contrast MRI
  2. Apply 4D phase contrast MRI to aneurysms
  3. Identify 4D PC MRI applications to flow diversion treatment of aneurysms
