Target Audience:

The Foundation of the ASNR Symposium 2018 will focus on adding value and improving healthcare in neuroradiology. It will center on how neuroimaging adds value in many subspecialty areas, including brain, spine, head & neck, pediatric and neurointerventional procedures. The target audience will include practicing neuroradiologists, other radiologists charged with interpreting neuroimaging studies, radiology fellows andresidents, neuroscientists interested in the latest advances, and non-radiology colleagues whose practices include neuroimaging. Dedicated topic areas include screening and diagnostic neuroimaging, evidence based neurointerventional treatment, emergency neuroimaging use and usefulness, advanced imaging strategies, and healthcare reform.

Upon completion of this module, participants should be able to:

Overview of Clinical Uses of 7TStephen E. Jones, MD, PhD

  1. Demonstrate that the underlying clinical value of higher field strength is using the increased signal-to-noise to benefit (1) smaller voxel size, with additional benefits from higher (2) susceptibility sensitivity and (3) tissue contrast.
  2. Provide numerous side-by-side comparative examples of clinical lesions at 3T and 7T, from a distribution of different neuropathology, showing added lesion conspicuity enabled by 7T.
  3. Describe some limitations of 7T compared with 3T.

  1. Review the wide-ranging molecular milieu of AD
  2. Evaluate potential significant applications of 7T MRI to AD

7T for EpilepsyAli R. Khan, PhD

  1. Describe how ultra-high field MRI can aid detection of subtle lesions in epilepsy
  2. Indentify new techniques for quantitative image analysis enabled by high-resolution structural imaging at 7T

Method of Physician Participation:

Each physician will listen to each audio self-directed module while following along with the visual slides. Upon completion, each physician will answer evaluation questions and pass a post test with at least a score of 80% to receive their CME certificate.
